Official Opposition stands with 22,000 New Brunswickers in forestry industry
Fredericton-Ross Wetmore, Official Opposition critic for Natural Resources says the provincial and federal governments must fight for the survival of our forestry industry. “The U.S. attack on our softwood lumber industry has the potential to devastate an already struggling economy. We started to get feedback immediately from lumber companies, trucking companies, supply companies, you name it. This is worrisome for thousands and thousands of families.”
Wetmore told media on Tuesday that the Gallant government’s media event on Friday, April 21st, where the government announced a multi-department task force on the issue, suggested to him that the government was late to act.
“The government should have been working hard on this file for the past two years. It appears as though they were not. That is very disappointing, but we hope they will now press their federal cousins to get the exemption that our industry deserves and has had for over 30 years.”
