Did The Vikings Settle In The Gulf Of St. Lawrence?

A fascinating special called Vikings Unearthed will be aired this coming Wednesday on PBS' Nova at 10p.m. AST. The show features the work done by Sarah Parcak, a space archeologist  who used satellite technology to zero in on Point Rosee (near the Codroy Valley in southwestern Newfoundland) to uncover what could be another Viking settlement.

Parcak, with some Canadian help, began excavating the site last summer and unearthed a fair bit of bog iron and slag in a hearth which may have been used to forge iron. Infrared satellite tech also revealed what could be building foundations. A significant excavation will be conducted this summer. For more see the New York Times.

What's interesting for Maritimers is that the site is the perfect location for the Vikings to launch to PEI, Mainland Nova Scotia, Eastern New Brunswick and Cape Breton. So the question is begged "Was the fabled Vinland  somewhere in the Gulf of St. Lawrence?"

Back in 1977, Ron Caplan published a piece in his Cape Breton's Magazine called  A Theory of the Vikings on Cape Breton. Ron interviewed H.L. Livingston of Marble Mountain on his interpretation of the Vinland sagas.

I know there were some theories about the Vikings in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia but I haven't been able to find the source material.

In PEI, a new group called the Vinland Society of Prince Edward Island has been formed partly to query the possibility of Vikings landing on the Island.

Do anyone know if other sites in the Maritimes have been suggested?
