Citizens are advised that immediate, unplanned maintenance is required on the Saint Patrick Street pedway escalators (near Rocky’s Sports Bar). The escalators have been taken out of service for safety reasons as we work with the contractor to determine the scope of the work. We anticipate the repairs to take three weeks to complete. During this time, whenever the maintenance schedule allows and it is safe to do so, the City will make every effort to maintain the operation of at least one escalator to accommodate peak pedestrian traffic times. However, there will be times at which both escalators will need to remain out of service.
The public is advised that the pedway elevator will remain operational while the work is underway.
We do expect a higher than usual volume of traffic through the pedway system today, as people make their way to Market Square atrium to welcome Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at 1:30 p.m.. We are working diligently with the Inspector to try and have the down escalator running for this peak time.
We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and will do our best to ensure that the escalators are back up and running as soon as possible. While work is underway, citizens are asked to give themselves some extra time to get through the pedway, or consider using an alternate route.
